DBT Skills Group

Learn practical skills for emotions, relationships, and getting through hard moments.

DBT Skills Group is a structured, skills-based group for people who want concrete tools to manage emotions, reduce impulsive reactions, improve relationships, and cope more effectively with stress.

This group is not about being “too much” or “not trying hard enough.” It is for people who have been doing their best and need clearer, more usable skills for real life.

What is DBT?

Dialectical Behavior Therapy, or DBT, is an evidence-based therapy approach that teaches practical skills in four main areas:

Mindfulness
Learning how to notice what is happening in the present moment without immediately judging it or reacting to it.

Emotion Regulation
Understanding emotions, reducing emotional vulnerability, and learning how to respond instead of feeling controlled by emotions.

Distress Tolerance
Getting through crisis moments safely without making things worse.

Interpersonal Effectiveness
Asking for what you need, setting boundaries, navigating conflict, and maintaining self-respect in relationships.

Who This Group May Be a Good Fit For

DBT Skills Group may be helpful if you:

  • Feel emotions intensely or shut down quickly

  • Struggle with anxiety, trauma responses, mood swings, or overwhelm

  • Have difficulty setting boundaries or asking for what you need

  • Find relationships confusing, painful, or hard to navigate

  • React impulsively when distressed

  • Want structured tools instead of only talking about what is wrong

  • Have tried therapy before but still need help knowing what to do in the moment

What to Expect

DBT Skills Group is structured like a class, not a process group. Each session focuses on learning and practicing specific DBT skills.

Group may include:

  • Teaching and discussion of DBT skills

  • Real-life examples of how to use the skills

  • Practice exercises

  • Weekly skills homework

  • Support with applying skills between sessions

You do not have to share details of your trauma history or personal life in order to participate. The focus is on learning skills you can use outside of group.
